Cleared Art ready

Cleared art for film and television has become a legal morass in recent years. Chicago Tribune reporter Steve Knopper wrote a great article about the intricate process films have to go through to reproduce work on camera for art heavy films. In short, it’s a giant headache. The same is true for all productions and can be a time consuming process for decorators and buyers. ATLIER hopes to alleviate some of this pain with the growing roster of artists in our cleared art catalog (link to section).

Initially, cleared art was not an area we intended to focus. Not due to lack of interest or experience: ATLiER co-owner Phoebe Brown worked in galleries in DC and NYC and specializes in archival images sourcing and clearance for documentary productions. Eric Bomba-Ire has a cinematic eye for artwork and a network of artist friends. We just thought the market was covered. Our friends at Action Art Rental do a phenomenal job with print on demand artwork and feature some fantastic Atlanta artists.  We all came up together in the Set Dec department are we’re thrilled to see them succeed.

But, as we started to grow our collection, every single designer, buyer and decorator we consulted with begged for more cleared art options. Since Atlanta has a smaller number of art galleries than NY or LA – decorators are constantly struggling to find immediate solutions for their artwork needs. We heard you and are pleased to offer a growing selection of cleared art. ATLiER currently features Atlanta artists

and are looking outside of ATL for new talent like Jor Smith Michel.

Michel comes out of Savannah and is on the verge of exploding on the national art scene. Kanye West and Pharell Williams are fans and he’ll be doing a large install at Art Basel in Miami in December.

Another featured artist from Ft. Myers is Dolores Julian – 84 years old and still painting strong.

She teaches paining in Ft. Myers and is thrilled at the prospect of having work on a show. Rent art and make an old lady happy – that’s some good karma!

ATLiER is also partnering with Set Art ATL who will be featuring their ready to hang collection at ATLiER. Karen and Troy Burns have run a successful commercial photography business for years and their extensive catalog of fine art photography is perfect for a wide array of set needs. You can deal with Set Art ATL directly for specialty printing or grab framed work to go from the ATLiER warehouse.

Phoebe is in the process of sourcing a great collection of verifiable public domain photography.  If you are in need of historical images, she has sourced and cleared photography and images for documentaries on PBS and was the archival producer for the feature documentary The Founders.  She knows her stuff.  Have a particular style or decade you are trying to capture? Give us a call! We are happy to source artwork for you.

ATLiER hosted Jor Smith Michel at our first Art Happy Hour – an event we will hold monthly where you can meet the artists and find small affordable work for sale for your own collection.   Look out for our next invite and enjoy a glass of wine while you stroll our warehouse (which will be much more comfortable at our next event in Oct.)
